If you are a male Stanley from a straight line of male Stanleys and would like to participate but can't afford to, please contact the Project Administrators, and inform them about your paternal ancestry. In addition, or as an alternative, you can place your request on our forum.

In addition we received the following sponsorships/pledges:

A 67-marker test for a proven male descendant of Thomas Stanley (the Quaker line) through a straight line of male Stanleys, in memory of Mrs. Stella Testerman Stanley;
A 67-marker test for a proven male descendant of George Stanley who married Winney Roberts, through a straight line of male Stanleys, in memory of Billy J. Stanley.
- This sponsorship was utilized on May 8, 2007.
$50 towards a 25-marker test for a proven descendant out of Thomas Stanley, son of William and Judith Stanley. This pledge is offered by Mr. Gary Mullins, Project Administrator of the Mullins DNA Project. The Mullins family has many, many connections to the Stanley families from SW Virginia. Thank you, Gary!

Upgrades Advised

Current participants who only have a 12-marker test should upgrade to a minimum of a 25-marker test, especially if:

It has been determined you are in HaploGroup R1b, upgrade to a 37-marker test is recommended;
You have a perfect or 11/12 match with another participant, regardless of HaploGroup.

If you need sponsorship in order to upgrade, please contact the Project Administrators. Upgrades can be ordered through your personal page with FTDNA.

Urgently needed

Many records in the United States on early ancestors are lost. Those ancestors left descendants who may never be able to overcome this roadblock. Those descendants may have a chance through participation in the DNA project to bridge the gap, but not without help.

There are a few well established, documented Stanley lineages, and we urgently need participants from these lineages. You may not gain any ancestors through your participation, depending on how far back you can go, but you sure will find many more cousins while at the same time you help descendants whose ancestor's records were burnt in wartime, or thrown away by a zealous county clerk.

We respectfully request descendants from the following lineages to come forward and participate:

Thomas Stanley, ancestor of the "Quaker Stanleys", and
The Hartford, Connecticut Stanleys.
